Koh Tao is a small island 7km long and 3km wide.  Located off the South-Eastern coast of Thailand, Koh Tao is a quiet and peaceful island compaison to its neighbours, Koh Samui and the Full Moon island of Koh Phangan.

From scuba diving, rock climbing, water sports and now flying trapeze, Koh Tao has a great deal to offer. With a wide range of accommodation, restaurants and activities, there is definitely something for everyone.

History
Since 1933-1947, the island was used as a prison until a royal pardon was granted and its residents were relocated to Chumphon and Suratthani. In that same year two farmers from neighboring Koh Phangan made the dangerous journey by long tail boat to the island. After claiming land for themselves on Sairee beach, they were later joined by their families, therefore establishing the first generation of today’s community on the island.

From the early days of being a prison island, to one of Thailand’s main diving hotspots, Turtle Island has not lost the charm and attraction that originally fascinated its first visitors.
